"Super Tuesday? Sorry Soup, I'll Take Tuesday."

One request regarding the election: As you watch the coverage, please leave a comment with your favorite quote. It can be left-wing, right-wing, non-partisan, or just plain stupid. For example, after 9/11, I, like everyone else, was glued to the TV for about 36 hours. By late afternoon, the anchors were running out of things to say. It was obvious. What happened was awful and just too difficult for people to wrap their heads around - including the journalists. Yet they were expected to sit in front on the camera giving marathon coverage. They were obviously exhausted and emotionally drained. So when Dan Rather said that it appeared that one of the towers swallowed the plane on one side and "belched" it out the other, I KNEW, there was nothing left to learn from the news that day. I'm sure we'll here some noteworthy comments today. Journalists, when left to their own devices, have diarrhea of the mouth just like the rest of us. Please share!

The day is upon us!! I'm excited to find out who wins (though, realistically, it may be several days or more until we know for sure), I'm excited to get the verdict on some of our local issues, but mostly, I'm excited for this to be over. This being-passionate-about-something is exhausting. I liken it to boxing. Opponents spend round after round pounding the snot out of eachother and then the winner is presented. Both opponents, all sweaty, bloody, bruised, and swollen, wobble over to eachother and hug. That's how I hope we'll all feel soon. People are angry, hopeful, hurt, frustrated, optimistic, worried, and just generally a big ball of emotional and intellectual mess. We are tired and weary. Regardless of the outcome, I believe we are all connected and there's room for everyone. I may cringe at your views, and you at mine, but at the end of the day, we all still love our children. We all hate to see suffering. We are all inherently good. Have you ever compared the religious practices of Muslims and Jews? These are two religions that declare themselves to be at opposite ends of the spectrum of things. Each thinks they are right and the other is wrong. Yet, take a look at their practices and holidays. There are more than a few parallels and I don't believe it's coincidence.

I know I may come off sounding like just another bleeding heart social worker. Maybe I am. I am proud of that though. I can say with certainty that my beliefs make it possible for me to be effective in my career. I believe everyone...EVERY ONE OF US...has the right to self-determination and the right to have peace and stability in our lives. You could stand for all the things that I'm against, but I will still try to help wherever I can. I am flawed, I am sometimes impatient, I am often verbose, I am usually tired, but I am willing.
